
Owen Meunier
Law Student
Owen Meunier has been an integral part of the Meunier Carrier Lawyers team since the summer of 2015. He works both remotely and in-office throughout the year, contributing to a wide range of legal and administrative tasks across the firm’s practice areas.
Owen is currently pursuing a dual Juris Doctor (J.D.) and Licentiate in Law (LL.L.) at the University of Ottawa, with graduation expected in the spring of 2027.
Owen’s legal work with the firm includes client intake, case preparation for examinations for discovery, executive summaries, pre- and post-examination undertakings, coordinating medical assessments, and participating in court appearances. He has also supported files involving children affected by motor vehicle accidents, including those with the Office of the Children's Lawyer, and has participated in legal service delivery in several First Nations communities along the James Bay Coast.
Owen regularly presents at internal training sessions for the firm, speaking on legal developments, organizational behaviour, GRIT (growth, resilience, integrity, tenacity), and team synergy.
Academic Background
On November 1, 2024, Owen graduated with a Master’s degree with Distinction from the University of Toronto. During the 2023–2024 academic year, he served as a Lecturer in German for the Department of Germanic Languages & Literatures, taught a third-year commerce course in the Rotman undergraduate program, and was a Teaching Assistant in the MBA program at the Rotman School of Management. He also contributed to curriculum and assessment development across several programs.
Earlier, in June 2023, Owen earned a Bachelor of Commerce with Distinction from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, specializing in Management with a focus on International Business and Leadership in Organizations. He also completed a double minor in Economics and German Studies.
Research and Conferences
Owen’s research interests include second language acquisition, machine-based translation, evolutionary linguistics, and capital market theory. He has delivered keynote presentations on web-based machine translation at conferences in Toronto, Barrie, Boston, and Zurich. His academic work has been published in the University of British Columbia Journal in February 2023 and April 2024.
International Experience
Owen has participated in numerous international academic and work placements. In 2022, he completed a placement with NOCA Mobility, a Berlin-based start-up supported by an EU accelerator for innovation in the cycling industry. In 2023, while working remotely for the firm, he studied at Saint Mary’s University in Kassel, Germany, and worked as a Lecturer and Advisor in the University of Toronto’s Abroad Program at Humboldt University in Berlin. Owen has been hired in a supervisory role in U of T’s Abroad Program in Berlin, Germany in the summers of 2024 and 2025.
Early Academic & Leadership Achievements
Owen graduated from Upper Canada College (UCC) in 2019, where he was elected Leaving Class President. He received the Lieutenant Governor’s Award, the Upper Canada Leaving Class of 1988 Award, and the Moderns Prize in Spanish. He served on student government, competed in football, led the Spanish Club, and continues to act as Director of Public Relations for the World Language Organization, a non-profit founded at UCC.
In 2014, he served as a Legislative Page at Queen’s Park in Toronto.
Languages and Volunteering
Owen is fluent in English, French, Spanish, and German, and proficient in Italian. He has taught modern languages in Toronto and Berlin and provides tutoring in languages and mathematics.
Since a young age, Owen has volunteered with the Timmins Food Bank and continues to support their efforts whenever he is in Timmins.
Personal Interests
Owen is passionate about world cultures, travel, and multilingualism. He has visited over 55 countries, shaping his deep interest in international law, language, and cross-cultural communication.
