Jay Meunier has been proudly serving clients in both official languages since his call to the Ontario Bar in 1995. With over 30 years of experience, Jay has dedicated his legal career to helping accident victims and families who have lost loved ones due to the fault or negligence of others.


Jay is passionate about the law and driven by a steadfast commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for his clients. His approach is defined by client-focused advocacy, mentorship, and a deep sense of purpose. In 2020, Jay founded Meunier Carrier Lawyers alongside David Carrier and their dedicated support team, cementing a vision rooted in excellence, ethics, and collaboration.


As owner of the firm, Jay's mission is to foster a legal environment grounded in advocacy, teamwork, continuing legal education, evolving technology, and mentorship. These principles define the culture and strength of Meunier Carrier Lawyers.


Areas of Practice:

Jay maintains a broad and dynamic litigation practice throughout Ontario, with a particular focus on:

  • Motor vehicle accidents (cars, motorcycles, ATVs, snowmobiles)

  • Wrongful death claims

  • Catastrophic injury (brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation, paraplegia)

  • Slip/trip and fall claims

  • Dog bite injuries

  • Disability and life insurance disputes

  • Employment and contractual litigation

  • Estate litigation and family law

  • Civil fraud and commercial disputes

  • Legal services to municipalities on a variety of matters

Jay has extensive experience acting for both plaintiffs and defendants and previously represented an insurance company in litigation across the province. He has also acted on behalf of survivors of abuse in residential school settings.

Jay has demonstrated a deep commitment to public service and legal education:

  • Panel Lawyer for the Office of the Children’s Lawyer (since March 2001) – representing children in family, protection, adoption, and Voluntary Youth Service Agreement (VYSA) matters

  • Deputy Judge, Small Claims Court (Districts of Cochrane and Sudbury, since 2015)

  • Former Adjudicator, Criminal Injuries Compensation Board (2009–2019)

  • Adjudicator, Civil Remedies for Illicit Activities Office (2017–2020)

  • Past Council Member and Board Director, Ontario Bar Association (2017–2019)

  • Member of the Executive for the Cochrane Law Association (1995 to present) current Continuing Legal Education and Newsletter Chair


Legal Education and Speaking Engagements:

Jay is a recognized leader in continuing legal education. He has delivered presentations across Ontario at high schools, colleges, workplaces, public forums, and professional legal conferences. Jay co-teaches a law course at Northern College with David Carrier and has been a longstanding contributor to the Sudbury Colloquium, serving as facilitator and speaker for both the Civil Litigation and Family Law programs. In addition, Jay plays a leading role in continuing legal education program for the Cochrane Law Association, organizing and delivering Lunch and Learn programs and legal symposiums for members of the bench and bar in the northeast.


Jay’s dedication to legal education extends to his firm, where in-house training and participation in external CPD programs are essential components of professional development. The firm’s ongoing learning culture ensures clients receive knowledgeable, up-to-date, and ethical legal services.


Jay has been attending the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association’s Spring and Fall conferences since 1998 and The Advocates’ Society’s Tricks of the Trade conference since 2007.

Interests:

Outside of the office and courtroom, Jay is an avid traveller, cyclist, and reader. He is a devoted fan of the Toronto Raptors, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the NHL more broadly, with a passion for attending live sporting events across Canada and the United States. Jay has travelled to over 60 countries, including the Maldives, Morocco, Argentina, Sri Lanka, Japan, Kenya, Tanzania, most Caribbean islands, South America, and numerous destinations across Europe. One of his most cherished places is Ravello, Italy, where he has spent part of his summers for over 16 years. There, he has had the unique privilege of completing more culinary classes with the renowned Mamma Agata and Chiara Lima than any other student to date.
